The actual lecture starts about 1:05 into the session.
R/F - block design - low=F, high=R
Similarities determines basic
Comprehension determines contact level
Low BD - in a way like low arithmetic in populations
we see. Able but cannot do it because of distractions.
Almost everyone can do BD given time and lack of distraction.
(Excluding clinical/organic issues)
R sees one way to put blocks together and does it quickly. Focused
attention and decisive and emotionally insulated. Good capacity for
procedural mechanical activities.
With F it is usually time factor that interferes. Sees alternatives.
Creative ways - learns by trial and error. Distracted.
Primitive R literal, decisive, procedural. Most of first few years of
school is well suited - school does "how to" things with little understanding.
F has more difficulty in school, especially if E and Eu.
F is naturally sensitive, feeling. Both feeling and emotion concerned with
self and in others. Other dimensions will come into play.
e.g. IF more concerned with own emotions and feelings - how things affect
individual.
EFA equally likely to be concerned with how things are affecting other
people.
Eu Fu Uc - a lot of energy into being externalized, involved will show
a great deal of sensitivity to others. Supportive/coaching person in
reference groups.
R has to be taught that feelings of others are important. If parents etc.
are concerned with R insensitivity, then pressure to become Rc.
Rcc -high BD, S, C. Looks a lot like Fuc. Both perceived as organized,
stable, tenacious, following conventions, respect organizations. Understanding.
If supervisors and otherwise the same except Fuc and Rcc, can be hard to
tell apart until there is something of a crunch - surprised at how
insensitive the R is. Surprised at how understanding and compassionate
and tolerant of need for change in F. F opens up. R goes back to R ways
under organizational stress.
Rcc is always organized, procedural but acquires degree of perceptivity.
Fuc always perceptive, sensitive, thin skinned, but acquires organization
and process along the way.
Fuu not much concerned with procedure and process. More likely
concerned with artistic etc. Especially in absence of high A, may find
bad judgement and impulsivity.
High S sensitive basic personalities perceptive and aware and
concerned in emotional terms.
Low S represent emotional detachment. With F, can be cruel and
punishing. R will be ruthless and self-centered and ritualistic.
Fc can be punishing - always hurt ones you live.
Fcc shows up asa "martinet". Many dentists are Fc.
Ruc - soldiers of the world. Rcc in management. Ruc sensitivities don't
get in the way of getting the job done.
Rcc does not go from R to F and back to R but is always organized and
procedural and picks up sensitivity along the way. Will never be the same as
an F. Rcc can be disappointing to Fuc wife who finds out how much the
sensitivity is intellectualized.
If ask an IF what he meant when he painted a painting he will look at you
with bewilderment - don't you see the painting! An Rcc will write a
pamphlet explaining the painting done by the IF - without ever talking to
the artist.
(Mike would prefer Ruc was called Ruu - pure R). Expect R to have
organized procedural contact.
Ruu (contact F) maybe should be called Ruc, but too hard to change all
the written material.
Encounter most frequently are Rcc and Fuc followed by Ruc.
Fuc has learned to accommodate societies needs in spite of F.
Rcc is like Fuc except sensitivity is superficial.
Rcc and Fuc tend to be leaders, coaches etc.
Ruc are not self-disciplined. Responsive to discipline. Make good soldiers,
mechanics, assembly workers. Taken out of institutions then lack
discipline. This is what is wrong with deinstitutionalizing e.g.
sending soldiers on shore leave.
Ruc, especially if Iu and/or Uu learn very well and thrive. These are
people who do well in institutions (even mental ones) but cannot thrive outside
of institution.
Example. R environment in Germany between wars made a place for Fcc.
Fcc with Ac and have manifest expressive brutality and cruelty. One of the few
inherently negative combinations in the PAS.
If try to evaluate ourselves introspectively, the hardest to deal with
is Similarities because it is the skill we need to evaluate.
