Last time - at end observed that when we drop off
primitive and look at basic and contact, we find
compensation and modification act to produce behaviors
that look the same even though come from different
starting points.
How they get to end point tells us a lot about
dynamics.
Example Ruc well organized automatically - lives in R
world in a comfortable way - organized, well governed activity.
Fuc looks a bit alike but gets there by overcoming some of his
perspective and trial and error. Fuc requires self-discipline and
control and surrender to work in Ruc world.
If take away institutional controls, Fuc continues to function
well because controls are internalized. Ruc becomes a kid.
Basic chart: 16 categories all of the basic descriptions.
Ic, Ec by virtue of change to other have acquired self sufficiency
and mental discipline. This is dynamically stronger than the compensation
represented by the Similarities or Picture Completion score.
Which subtests most "important" (Gittinger says all important) -
dynamically Heyman is comfortable rating them: A is most singularly
important and PC next. Then BD, DS, PA. Last is I in terms of weight in
fashioning the ultimate profile. Mike would not feel very inhibited by
interpreting a profile missing I.
High Arith people qualitatively different is somehow more different than
qualitative differences in others.
To satisfy me, I have taken the 8 triads at the basic level
and setup two such charts: One with high A and one with low A. Thus
the chart (Click here for
chart). This gives 16 core basic level structures.
Recall primitive ERA (entrepreneurial, outgoing, organized, socially skilled).
Basic era shares some. However:
Basic era aggressive, manipulative and essentially psychopathive. Socially
active and exploitive, fickle, avoid responsibility.
era basic: Nomadic, exploitive, manipulative. Organized.
(Also in basic ira) Depends upon these qualities - social, organizing,
technically.
Moving around is part of life style - get out of town before they are caught.
Out of town and start over rather than get shown up.
Note: Others are nomadic running away from inadequacies - don't know they
carry their problems with them.
Nomadic era knows what he is doing.
Can get to era from ERA, ERU, EFA, EFU.
Example with workaholic: would be Ec and Uc. EFU who had not abandoned
compassion and emotional needs.
Primitive ERA .> era is in his element. Extremely comfortable. Never
had to move - just got older. Effective in being all the traits of the primitive
but "that is all there is". If moves into contact as era, have a 26 year old
3 year old. Still environmentally relating, socially manipulating, using
organizational abilities.
If a primitive EFU become era, that is er*a* - controlled or submerged
sensitivity.
Reverse and go to basic efa - supporters.
For EFU to go to efa, has to learn social effectiveness (Uc).
For primitive ERA, has to compensate R to ef*a - compensation for
characteristic insensitivity, lack of perception. R has had to become
sensitive, concerned, understanding.
Primitive ERA as basic era can be tough, cool, unresponsive - has not been
discouraged. For primitive EF to be that way - must become cool, detached and
insensitive. "Reactor" has to react against all that.
There has to be some negative movement - putting down feelings and react
against it. "Always hurt the one he/she loves." So get not just coldness,
but abusive and cruel. EFU -> er*a* is tough/mean.
Each of the 16 can be arrived at from 4 (tape says 8) different
primitives. Depends on what individual has overcome and reacted against.
Helps us understand natural disposition to other people,
genuineness of accommodations and loving qualities, extent of toughness,
the latent likelihood of collapsing under pressure. Will the person,
under pressure to be tough, will you pull back (example: Charlie Beckwith who
pulled back when there was the first failure in the failed attempt to liberate
the US hostages at the embassy in Tehran). The "bug out" personality.
Mike's shorthand: Discussion of learning to write summaries.
Approach: Euc Rcu Ucu
Primitive ERU, basic ef*a*, contact i';f\;a\;
Outgoing, relating, sensitive, socially involving.
Example: When met you, thought you were self-centered. Looks like and
sounds like an I - intellectualizing. Loquacious, articulate.
Trying to be creative, artistic.
Has to avoid being insensitive, lacking perception, suspicious,
socially inhibited/ineffective.
So where we have a 1 paragraph assessment. Then contextualize into
whether a Green Berret, cop, analyst.
"Monsters" of the underlying primitive are always there to deal with.
Break at 48:30
Starts back 48:50
Responsibility Cluster: Thinking about importance of various subtests.
Comes from things other than primitives - they are "given." So ask,
"what is it that makes primitive individual catch up with society."
ie. "socialization" defined as cultural values.
Uses A, S, C, and OA for scaling. Dropped PC because it is equivocal with
"A" - sometimes high good and sometimes low "good". Is it maturing or
controlling (high PC and high OA).
Plus for high A, S, C, and low OA.
So can get 0 to 4. As a modifier: high PC, low OA good - a "A".
Low PC, high OA bad - "D".
Low PC, low OA diffident may not be good for him, but
not punishing. High PC, high OA exploitive but not as much as
low PC, high OA.
At high end of scale people are disciplined, sensitive, perceptive,
conforming, and concerned. Regardless of where they came from in primitives.
At low end, characterized as impulsive, insensitive, unconforming,
unconventional, unconcerned with needs of others. Again, regardless of
primitives.
Can be modified by the ABCD of PC/OA.
Higher the scale - most likely the person is making socially
effective or productive adjustment in his/her population.
