The first 3 minutes of Part 2 are a repeat of the end of Part 1.
More on the Responsibility Cluster - scoring
Example of a 4a profile.
ERA- (or ERU+)
High Arith
High Sim
High C
Low OA
"A" - high PC, low OA
This ERU will make a positive adjustment.
Intellectualized, organized, sensitive, perceptive. Not terrible outgoing
and relating, social involvement is low key and not punishing.
Will use intellectual/procedural skills in an effective way.
Example of bad one. 0D
All responsibility. cluster ones are low. Low PC and high OA. Almost certain a
criminal psychopath.
From database 30 young ladies trained as nuns.
Survival rates as nuns.
19 in program 3-5 years past start.
Of those 19, 14 has scale scores of 3 or 4.
(Note: for arbitrary high/low purposes, 3 or 4 is high, 0-2 is low)
70% of those surviving were in the high scale.
22 of guys in Assassin study. The service thought they might be and
observed.
Set out to do bad thing. What they were able to do breaks out interestingly
on social conscience scale (responsibility scale).
Of 7 with scores of 3 or 4, only 2 carried out intent. 5 did not. Two
in position to do so aborted.
Of 15 on low end, 13 actually carried out an attempt. 8 resulted in
killing target and 5 in wounding.
Scale shows those whose conscience got the better of them.
Random set of 30 cases from PASF database. Chart not available.
30 drug addicts - 27% high, 73% low
30 former crooks - 73% low
22 assassins - 68% ow
30 alcoholics - 68% high
30 novitiates from convent 50%
30 from college staff - 66% high
DSY shows L (below NL), M (near NL), H (above NL)
In some way tells how the person can muster the resources available to
him/her in the profile.
How well compensators and modifiers were integrated.
e.g. Low DSY with E is depressed
low DSY with I is withdrawal
Saunders showed that more than 10 factors in WAIS (25).
Saunders actually subscored I and PC (Q2 and Q1).
Saunders then added Stroop test and Time Estimation.
Stroop Color Naming test
Time Estimate Task
(Note description of Stroop is before Saunders modified it to give
word if in black).
Mike: "hemispheric ambidexterity"
Saunders: High Color Naming (CN) represents a learning efficiency
(High do the task quickly)
High CN comfortable and confident in their human abilities
Time Estimate (TE)
100 is accurate
120+ high
80 or less is low
In conventional PAS triad:
Primitive: CN
Basic DSY
Contact TE
Gittinger somewhat accepting that this 4th dimension is the vague
"extra" thing John always talked about.
4th dimension a measure of "coping skill." Effectiveness in dealing with
stress. Capacity to deal with confrontation.
Response to dealing with pressure.
More than I/E and R/F - more "stylistic" than "substantive". Same is
somewhat true of A/U.
I/E says how person thinks. R/F tell how person feels.
4th tells about person's ability to cope.
Link to ????? 4th dim chart
High CN is "G" - goal oriented - capacity for perspective, long range
perspective. Confidence in self especially dealing with stress or confrontation.
Learns to NL well.
Low CN is "T" - task orientation - highly focused on immediate concern.
Dealing with the now. More difficulty learning. "Licked before he starts" -
"I can't learn foreign languages."
Stress is not disabling to "G" person, may be enabling.
"T" is vulnerable to stress and easily disabled or immobilized.
"G" "Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead."
CN is modified (compensated) by DSY
Gu - high CN, high DSY - g
Gc - high CN, low DSY - t*
Tc - low CN, high DSY - g*
Tu - low CN, low DSY - t
DSY - test of how fast you can learn a nonsense task you have not done
before.
TE takes us into the contact crossover phenomena.
Coding: WAIS subtests related to NL because cognitive tasks.
These phenomena (4th dimension) more neuro-psychological than cognitive.
In population of mid to high HL, take CN 10-12 as cutoff for TE.
Also CN and DSY. Saunders looks at DSY and high/low compare to NL.
Then CN high or low according to deviation from DSY.
TE is high or low as it deviates from accuracy.
Gu stress tolerant to start with and stress enabled.
If good TE, stress is non-threatening activity.
Saunders calls the Guu the "poly-active" personality. Can keep eye on the
wheel and do things.
Tc is learned goal oriented. Saunders calls this "pro-active."
Learns how to deal with stress by being prepared, contingency planner.
Protects against inherent inadequacies by positioning resources ahead of time.
Tu Saunders calls "re-active" - doesn't respond until it's too late.
Always reacting or running to catch up. Or slamming the door to keep it out.
Gc - no Saunders word, Mike calls "Inactive". Tcc - doesn't let
stress happen. Just stands still and let's it happen.
Poly-active: example of guy in office typing, conversing with Mike and
wife, and talking to translators. Unchanged by stress. So confident of
abilities that stress is not stressful.
Analogy of Auu. Ucu is good socially, but stressful. Auu has no
stress or anxiety. So Tcu is like Ucu.
Tcu is almost as good but it "costs" - can deal with stress. Will address
confrontations, be there when needed, but come home and collapse. Just like
Ucu.
Now "stress tolerant". Low DSY cases - Gc or Tu. Good at TE.
So contact "g". Good at TE.
Stress energized: g* - experience of stress being brought to bear.
Able to deal with stress in a seemingly dispassionate way.
