PAS Seminar
Session 1 - Introduction and Single Dimension Behaviors Part 2 Intellectual Dimension / Procedural Dimension
pasc1-01-2

Low D score: (Externalizer)

Nature of D task interferes with preferential way of dealing with world.

Prefers external reality.
Behaviorally active - maybe transactive - interactive.
Asks questions to explore world. I (high D) doesn't need to ask.
Explores external world - administratively independent - practical
Dependent on real people - who might get angry with your.
   So we say emotionally dependent
Talk a lot - might be quiet but is listening to you
(High D talks a lot but may talk at you)

Everyone has some of both behaviors. - different ratios in I and E
I preferring people and E preferring people.

I+ I I- E- E E+

Example: people on left more likely thinking first then doing

Second dimension:

Procedural Dimension

Has to do with the way we going about doing things or getting things done.
Indicator is Block Design (BD)

Important to follow directions in Wechsler so have equal tests to get
valid person to person comparisons.

Don't hide stopwatch. Be matter of fact. It is part of the nature of the test.
Do not say "Do it as quickly as you can". That implies that time is
more important than accuracy.

Most people can do all or nearly all of them - but time is the difference.

Person who does well takes advantage of the demonstrations and directions.
People who do well are more efficient at using this information.

You tell them there are 9 blocks.

People who do well do a lot of looking back and forth to picture and
do it block at a time.

High BD: Regulated Person

BREAK

Another approach to Block Design that get lower score.

Might comment on blocks. Might look at sides of blocks. Might ask if have
to make same on sides.
Usually not a lot of difference on 2x2 but might have some indications.

On 3x3, linear fashion of putting blocks down changes to more making
shapes and try to put shapes together.
Don't seem to be able to superimpose grids.
Might have all right but 1 block and tear it all up.
Gets feedback form his or her own mistakes, not from your demonstrations.

Low BD: Flexible Person

Explores all dimensions of the task even if not relevant.

Regulated: Flexible:
Imitative learning Trial and error learning
(need a role model to do this) (might be more effective in some cases)
