PAS Seminar Session 3 - Primitive Types - Combining Three Dimensions Part 1 - ERA, ERU |
pasc3-01-1 Session 3 - primitive profiles Looking at behaviors Think of this as a "costume" that anyone can put on. So is this costume his born costume, something he puts on once in a while or his everyday costume. A constellation of behaviors (costumes) that we can observe in some people Even in very small children are not seeing pure primitive types. Preferences infants have and then develop - inhibit, express etc. preferences in broader environment (home, school etc.) Social dimension is more about a skill than a preference A - prefers an interview U - prefers a competitive exam (let me show you what I can do) ERA Externally oriented, procedural, organized literal way - doer. R not comfortable with ambiguity because R imitates. Threatened without external structure. Has ability to spend a lot of time doing the same thing. R is vulnerable to perseveration - cause it is easy - fun to keep doing it. EA comfortable because E likes the attention/attraction. ERA can be confused - done what you showed me to do - what is wrong. But with A can get out of it. Children: sunny, popular, outgoing, over-estimated E children usually learn to talk sooner than I but when can talk enough to interact, language as a subject has no intellectual interest. So learn early but not develop vocabulary. Seek status quo. Usually popular children with most people so over estimated. May stumble in reading class but teacher "knows" he knows. Difficulty growing up is that world changes and "they did not tell me" The E "does", asks questions, touches, tastes etc., when E children, especially E+, when go to school, you don't talk and teacher tells you a lot. Can think they are dumb and pick up intellectual inferiority. Goes along with the group. ERU Still have experiential learner, transacter in world. Person dependent on external learning and modeling. But now have low PA who early on is not perceived to have a high social stimulus value - is paid much less attention to. Needs attention but gets ignored. Parents feeling upset people don't pay attention to baby and feel guilty about it but also upset child is not more attractive. (ERA parents upset cause kid pays so much attention to others). Looking for attention but ignored - sometimes not so kindly. Paradox-not paid attention to. More likely than any other primitive to learn language early because have to talk to them since they won't talk to me. "More stones in the path" to transacting Vocal and demanding for needs which is fuel for fire. Yelling does not get the attention so have to do something. So achievement comes. ERU lot of tolerance for narrow range of behavior
